More Mapping Madness

I know--you're thinking, "What is it with that guy and mapping resources?" What can I say? I like them. If you teaching geography or social studies the GPS Coordinate Converter is a site that is likely to come in handy. You just enter the coordinates for your location, for example, 37 23.516 -122 02.625 or N 34° 22.751 W 083° 06.467 in the box above the Convert and Map button and then click the button. After that, you get a map of your target location along with other interesting options. By the way, I'm also found an interesting link that I'm still checking out. It's called GeoCaching. Has anyone ever heard of it?

Take a World Wind Tour

If you haven't seen NASA's very impressive program called World Wind, (it's sort of like Google Earth but does a few things differently) you ought to consider downloading a copy (it's free) and taking it for a spin. At first I was a little put out that it took so long to download and install it (about fifteen to twenty minutes). After I saw it in action, however, I was more than glad I had taken the time to play with it. The program allows students to zoom in from satellite altitude down to any location on our planet. By combining high resolution LandSat imagery and elevation data, pupils can experience our world in beautiful 3D detail. This is a wonderful way to integrate technology in your content.
