This is a (sort of) follow-up to the last post I made. If you're teaching 20th century history and want a way to "hook" your students, consider this little activity: have students make a list of dates that are important in terms of their (or their family's) own personal history and the use the #1 Song on This Date in History website. Once a song title is returned, the students can research the lyrics to the tune and postulate why the song was popular at the time. You might also want your learners to use the dMarie Time Capsule to dredge up other era-specific information. All of this should help students forge links between information they feel is relevant to their own interests and the content being studied.
